In 1988, Emerson College began a unique, trail blazing academic program in Los Angeles. Since then, Emerson College Los Angeles has become a role model in offering academic opportunities and high profile experiential internships in Los Angeles.

Each semester, more than 100 students from the Boston campus come to Los Angeles to participate in academic classes with industry professionals and to gain first-hand exposure to the business of entertainment through professional-level internships for college credit. There is no better way for a student to transition from the world of college to the real working world than through these kinds of opportunities.

Isabel thought this was a terrific experience that all students should have.

At the August 22, 2004 memorial tribute event to Ms. Sanford, held at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood, Brad Lemack announced the launching of a new scholarship in Isabel's name: the Isabel Sanford Los Angeles Scholarship at Emerson College Los Angeles.

This scholarship is slated to be awarded each semester to a current Emerson student, preferably a minority student who is receiving financial assistance, to help fund their semester in Los Angeles.

Denny's restaurants, which featured Isabel and her TV husband Sherman Hemsley in a popular series of television commercials, kicked off the scholarship with a generous contribution. Since the tribute event, donations have continued to be received.

Isabel's family and friends have been overwhelmed by the response from both the entertainment community and the general public and are enormously grateful for the honors these donations continue to bestow upon Isabel.

Contributions to the scholarship fund are accepted throughout the year and are tax deductible as allowed by law. All donations will be acknowledged with a letter from the college.
